“SITUATION ANALYSIS IN CHILDREN’S RIGHTS PERSPECTIVE” MOKEN/MOKLEN/URAK LAWOI COMMUNITIES IN POST TSUNAMI AREA

The research team on “Situation Analysis in Children’s Rights Perspective” chose to study 4 communities that were facing great risks in children rights violation like statelessness, healthcare, education and literacy, livelihood and occupation, family violence, adapting to new technology and communication.  The communities were Moken on Koh Lao in Ranong, Moken on Surin Islands in Phang-nga, Moklen in Thung Wa in Phang-nga and Urak Lawoi and Moken in Rawai, Phuket.  The team collected data by in-depth interviews of children and adults in the communities, staff from government and non-profit organizations.   Then the team analyzed strengths and weaknesses of each community in working on children’s rights and made recommendations for future work to promote such rights.
