YALAN WEN: TRAIL TO THE WATER SOURCE MOKEN VILLAGE, BON BAY, SURIN ISLAND

“Yalan Wen” or the path to the water source is the Moken foraging trail on which the 800 meter stretch has been cleared for visitors to walk and learn about plants, wildlife, and Moken forest livelihoods on the Surin Islands.  The trail is relatively flat and easy to walk, but it is often wet (or swampy after heavy rain) as it is the path to the spring water where the Moken, with the support from outside organization, built a small dyke to store water to use in the village and school.   There are 24 spots on the trail with informative signs about plants and Moken plant uses.  On each spot, you get to learn 2 Moken words, so if you walk the entire trail and remember all these words, you will know the total of 48 Moken words!
